Targeting Rules That Actually Move Conversions
Geo + device + scroll depth — the underrated combo that 3x'd our newsletter signups.
Most teams set up a single rule ("show on /pricing") and call it done. The teams that win layer rules.
The combinations that work
- URL + scroll depth. Show on /blog/* AND scroll past 50%. This filters out drive-by readers.
- Device + return visit. Mobile-only on second visit. Captures intent without harassing first-timers.
- Geo + offer. Free shipping for visitors in your fulfilment country. Cheaper offers elsewhere.
Combine these and you're surgically precise. We took a single newsletter widget from 0.8% conversion to 2.4% by switching from "show everywhere" to "show on /blog/* + scroll 50% + new visitor."
